postheadericon Spider Phobia – Cured with EFT and Hypnosis

Ella Griffin had two choices: take a fumigated capsule into space or tackle her spider phobia. It was a tough call…

I am the 27,867th person to watch an adorable eight-year-old girl called Amena playing with her pet, Eliza, on YouTube.

“She’s a little bit shy,” Amena giggles as Eliza snuggles into the crook of her arm, then changes her mind and starts to climb up her T-shirt.

Eliza has more hair on her legs than the entire Irish rugby team and only slightly fewer legs.

She is a Chilean rose-haired tarantula.

The fact that I can even look at a spider the size of a mini pizza crawling over another person is a miracle — five years ago, it was about as likely as George Clooney finally settling down with Kerry Katona, or Seamus Heaney turning up as a judge on ‘The X Factor‘.

For most of my life, I have been terrified of spiders.  Read on here http://www.independent.ie/lifestyle/arachnophobia-3045755.html

A friend recommended Aisling Killoran, a hypnotherapist who treats all kinds of phobias. The most common are fears of driving, flying and public speaking, but she has treated people who are terrified of Barbie dolls and buttons.

Aisling used a combination of Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), hypnosis and desensitisation technique to deal with my fear. This last bit turned out to mean huge rubber spiders.

EFT is a kind of psychological acupressure without needles. Aisling taught me to tap acupuncture points on my face and the chest while I remembered how scared I’d been in my kitchen.

She promised me that this would take the emotional charge out of the memory and I didn’t believe her for a second.

I made her promise to keep the rubber spiders in their box and, in between the tapping, I opened my eyes to check that she hadn’t cheated and taken them out.

By the second session, I was able to let her put them on the floor between us. And by the fourth and final session, I was able to put one on the back of my hand.

But a rubber spider is, well, made of rubber. What would happen when I met a real, live one?

Before I went to Aisling, just imagining that was enough to ring every alarm bell in my mind, but now I felt oddly calm.

A few weeks later, I came across a mammoth spider on the bathroom floor. Without even thinking, I picked up a toothbrush mug and popped it over him before either of us had a chance to leg it.

My husband released him when he got home. “How did it look?” I asked him. “Startled,” he said, looking kind of startled himself.

That was more than four years ago and I haven’t killed or maimed a single spider since.

If you would like to book an appointment to get rid of your fear or phobia once and for all then call either Ray Manning 087 6778049 or Aisling Killoran on 087 1352122 of Accomplish Change Clinic, you can also call us at 01-2986507

postheadericon Enhance Traditional Therapy with Energy Psychology

Enhancing Traditional Therapy with Energy Psychology Interventions By Robert Schwartz, PsyD

In my 27 years of practice as a clinical psychologist, I have been guided by a continuous curiosity to study and implement the most effective tools for helping my clients experience relief and healing.

Whether the techniques are firmly rooted in the psychotherapeutic establishment or newly emerging, the main question for me has always been, “Do they work?” And like most scientist clinicians, I start off in a skeptical, yet open place.

My toolkit at this stage is rather expansive—including hypnosis, solution oriented therapy and systems approaches to name a few. Central to my work in the past decade, however, is the practice of Energy Psychology (EP), a psychotherapeutic strategy that integrates established clinical principles with methods derived from various healing traditions of Eastern cultures (acupuncture, yoga, etc.). The most prominent EP modalities being practiced

Today (Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), Thought Field Therapy (TFT) and Tapas Acupressure Technique (TAT)) combine brief psychological exposure with the manual stimulation of acupuncture points (acupoints) in the treatment of a variety of emotional conditions.

Though the field of EP is only 30 years old, it is fast growing due to its ability to provide swift results with no abreaction in most cases—particularly with trauma patients.

For instance, in the spring of 2006, 50 orphans of the Rwandan genocide (many of whom witnessed their parents die by machete) were treated with a single TFT session. Following this session, scores on a PTSD checklist completed by caretakers and on a self-rated PTSD checklist had significantly decreased. The number of participants exceeding the PTSD cutoffs decreased from 100% to 6%. Retesting a year later showed that the improvements held.

There have been many other outcome studies describing the effectiveness of EP methods in quickly and permanently reducing maladaptive fear responses to traumatic memories and related cues.

Even so, the approach has been controversial. Some consider EP to fall under the rubric of pseudoscience. This is, in part, because the mechanisms by which EP works have not been established.

In his 2010 “Rapid Treatment of PTSD” article in Psychotherapy: Theory,Research, Practice, Training, psychologist David Feinstein speculates that adding acupoint stimulation to psychological exposure is unusually effective in its speed and power because deactivating signals are sent directly to the 1 Treatment of PTSD in Rwandan Child Genocide Survivors Using Thought Field Therapy

Caroline Sakai, PhD, Suzanne M. Connolly, LCSW, Paul Oas, PhD.
International Journal of Emergency Mental Health, Winter 2010, 12(1), 41-50.
Published in the Jan/Feb 2012 issue of The National Psychologist amygdala, resulting in reciprocal inhibition and the rapid attenuation of maladaptive fear.

Another possibility is that Energy Psychology techniques share certain characteristics with EMDR, hypnosis and other therapies that use highly focused patterns of treatment.

First the client is asked to pick a specific target and rate how distressing it is with a SUDs (Subjective Units of Distress) number between 0-10.

What proceeds next is some sort of therapeutic operation, which could be tapping on meridian points, bilateral stimulation or the use of imagery. The client is then asked to report on his/her experience as well as the current SUDs level. If the SUDs is zero, the therapy is essentially done for this target issue.

If it is not zero, whatever remains becomes the new target of the intervention. The therapeutic operation is performed again and a new SUDs assessment is taken. This continues until the SUDs is zero or close to zero.

Cognitive psychologists Miller, Galanter and Pribram refer to this therapeutic strategy as a TOTE (Test – Operate – Test – Exit). Psychotherapy approaches incorporating the TOTE pattern are distinguished from the standard Rogerian or Psychoanalytic talk therapy in many ways—most notably by the swift nature of the healing being reported in outcome studies, peer reviewed articles, randomized controlled trials and case studies.2 Could it be that this very pattern is the source of the effectiveness rather than the specific intervention (e.g. tapping on meridian points) in the “Operate” section of the TOTE? It is a fascinating question.

Nevertheless, a recent Randomized Controlled Trial (soon to be published in the Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease3) has shown EFT to significantly lower cortisol-related stress levels and self-reported psychological symptoms after a single treatment session.

It’s exciting to see more robust research validating years of anecdotal positive outcomes with EP—many of which, as in the case of the Rwandan orphan study or the rapid relief of PTSD symptoms experienced by US combat veterans treated with EFT4, have seemed incredible from a talk therapy perspective. While more sophisticated (and more expensive) studies need to be done, the data continues to stack up in favor of EP.

I cannot help but think that Energy Psychology is following the path described by Williams James a century ago: “A new idea is first condemned as ridiculous and then dismissed as trivial, until finally it becomes what everybody knows.”

postheadericon 5 of the most common reasons that keep people from losing weight – EFT Tapping

Weight loss is a complicated business. There are, of course, people who have never had a weight problem who can’t imagine any difficulty with food and helpfully say: “Why don’t you eat less and exercise more?”

Yes, that is what needs to be done. It’s so easy to say, less easy to do. YET IT IS POSSIBLE.  The Irish Independent list the following 5 most commom reasons, by a lady called  Kimberley Willis in the UK.

The following 5 most common reasons that keep you from losing weight can be adressed with the help of  Hypnosis and EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique or tapping).

1 Emotional issues from the past, which are subconsciously still causing problems

You might not be consciously aware of the issues or events that are keeping you attached to that excess weight.

All you know is that you start to lose weight, then you gain the weight back.

EFT can help clear up the energy imbalances that are making you repeat this unwanted behaviour over and over again.

2  A vicious circle of low moods and cravings caused by food choices

Many people find they are feeling low. They are unhappy about the way they look and are constantly craving foods that they know aren’t going to help them lose weight, but they can’t seem to break free.

When you are feeling unhappy, your mind searches through its knowledge for something that will make you feel better — it only knows what you have done before.

It might come up with cake, so it makes you crave this.

What it doesn’t know is that this only gives you a temporary boost followed by a drop in blood sugar. In the long term, this is making you overweight and unhappy.

I get my clients to start retraining their brains, not by cutting out everything but by including more of the foods that will make you feel good.

For example, including more foods in their diet that are high in tryptophan — a chemical that your body needs to make serotonin, the ‘feel-good chemical’.

In order to lower unwanted food cravings, I also teach specific acupressure points and tapping techniques. Your mind and body then starts to learn that there are other things that will make you feel better.

3 Habits

Your mind loves habits and it can find it hard to let them go. We all have habits that make up our lives, but your food habits might be the ones that are keeping that weight on.

You might always have a take-away on a Friday night, have a biscuit with your tea or finish the kids’ toast.

To make a change, you have to recognise these habits and then, using a combination of EFT, acupressure and thought techniques, you can create new positive habits.

4 Ignoring your body

You might hate your body and want to pretend that it’s not really there. If you hate your body and keep ignoring it, it isn’t going to want to work with you.

Paying attention to your body, getting to know it again and caring for yourself is important. When you love and respect your body, you will care about what you put into it.

5 Fear of the future

Your plans for the future might be making you nervous. But what negatives could there possibly be about becoming slimmer and healthier?

I have come across many reasons to explain why people’s subconscious minds hold on to excess weight.

For example, you might have had a painful break-up, and now keeping that weight on is keeping a protective barrier between you and any potential new partners. That weight is keeping you safe.

You need to become aware of what is going on and then take the necessary steps to feel more confident about the future.

My aim is to empower people by giving them a toolbox of techniques so that they have the skills to deal with events that might have caused them, in the past, to overeat.

At Accomplish Change Clinic in Dublin we work with helping people loose weight through hypnosis, hypnotherapy and tapping also know as EFT, Emotional Freedom Techniques and acupressure points too. You can contact Ray or Aisling on 01-2986507 for more information on our weight loss programmes.

postheadericon Tender Loving Care for your Heart

Your Heart is an amazing organ, unique for both its physical functions and energetic properties, and therefore needs some extra special attention, and definitely some tender loving care.

Aside from the well-known fact that the heart is the first major organ to develop in the fetus after conception, it is also impossible to live without one beating brightly within each of our bodies. In addition, the heart’s ability to tell us when we fall in Love, experience Joy, feel Gratitude, and appreciate Beauty, is without question, the tour de force for our passions in the pursuit of happiness and fulfillment throughout our lives.

While these statements are nothing new, Neuro-physicists have recently been astonished to discover that the Heart is more an organ of intelligence, than merely the bodies’ main pumping station. In fact, these new discoveries include intriguing evidence that more than half of the Heart is actually composed of neurons of the very same nature as those that make up the cerebral system. Not only that, but the heart also emits a 5,000 times stronger electromagnetic field than the brain. Joseph Chilton-Pearce, author of The Biology of Transcendence, calls the heart “the major biological apparatus within us and the seat of our greatest intelligence.”

According to the Institute of Heart Math, “the heart and brain maintain a continuous two-way dialogue, each influencing the other’s functioning. The signals the heart sends to the brain can influence perception, emotional processing and higher cognitive functions; neuro-cardiology researchers view this system and circuitry as the “heart brain”. In a specific comment regarding intuition, HeartMath goes on to say; “Heart intuition or intelligence brings the freedom and power to accomplish what the mind, even with all the disciplines or affirmations in the world, cannot do if it’s out of sync with the heart.”

The HeartMath Institute has also conducted additional research studies relating to our emotions and more, which they call, “Emotional Energetics Research” and publish the following statement on their website:

“The heart produces by far the body’s most powerful rhythmic electromagnetic field, which can be detected several feet away by sensitive instruments. Research shows our heart’s field changes distinctly as we experience different emotions. It is registered in people’s brains around us and apparently is capable of affecting cells, water and DNA studied in vitro. Growing evidence also suggests energetic interactions involving the heart may underlie intuition and important aspects of human consciousness.”

This newly emerging scientific evidence has the enormous power and potential to open the minds of anyone willing to stop long enough and reflect on what this truly means to each and every one of us. Not only are we discovering the true potential of every individual should they begin to live from their heart, rather than solely from their logical mind, but also to fully grasp the truth that we are all intimately connected and collectively one.

Additional evidence was found to support this truth when researchers looked a little closer and revealed an even more astonishing discovery; that each heart cell is unique in that it not only pulsates in synchrony with all the other heart cells, but also produces an electromagnetic signal that radiates out beyond the cell. An EEG that measures brain waves shows that the electromagnetic signals from the heart are so much stronger than brain waves, that a reading of the heart’s frequency spectrum can be taken from three feet away from the body, without the need to place electrodes on it.

This next bit of news is one of the most interesting, as the geometric shape that the Heart’s electromagnetic frequency creates is in the form of a torus field. Similar to the shape of a donut, the heart’s torus field radiates out from the chest for as far as twelve to fifteen feet from the body, and then wraps around and returns in through the back, creating the ‘hole in the donut’ in the middle. The axis of this Heart torus extends from the pelvic floor to the top of the skull, and the whole field is holographic, meaning that information about it can be read from each and every point within the torus’ energetic field.

Even more intriguing is that the Hearts’ torus electromagnetic field is not the only source that emits this type of electromagnetic field. In fact, all atoms emit the very same energetic torus field. Earth also emits it’s own (well documented) electromagnetic field in the same form of a torus. And so does the solar system, and even our galaxy. And, all are holographic.

Scientists believe there is a good possibility that there is actually only one Universal torus encompassing an infinite number of interacting, holographic tori within its spectrum. And, because electromagnetic torus fields are holographic by nature, it is more than likely that the sum total of our Universe is present within the frequency spectrum of a single torus.

This means that each one of us is connected to the entire Universe, in a very real and observable way, and as such, each one of us has access to all of the information within this Universal field of energy, at any given moment. When we get quiet and access what we hold in our Hearts, we are literally connecting to the limitless supply and wisdom of the Universe, thereby enabling what we perceive as “miracles” to enter into our lives.

This amazing organ that we often times ignore, neglect, and build walls around, is where we can find our greatest strength, our faith, our courage and our compassion, enabling our higher emotional intelligence that can, if we allow it, guide us throughout our lives.

Anyone today can begin living from their Heart, easily and simply by learning to meditate, as meditation will enable you to easily access your Heart’s inner wisdom and that of the Universe.

As each one of us begins this ‘quiet revolution of living from the Heart’, we will begin to see it reflected in our lives and in our world. It is also how each one of us will create real and lasting change in our personal lives, and as a direct result, also be co-creating a new and better world in the process.
